Over the month of August, leaders and team will run toolbox talks and local safety conversations focused on four practical questions: What risks are we seeing?, What can we fix now?, What needs to be made safe or escalated?, How can we look out for each other?
Launching at the same time is the GIVE A DAMN SAM Recognition Program. Each month, Metcash will recognise people who are “caught giving a damn” by identifying, fixing, controlling or escalating a hazard or risk. The strongest stories will be shared across the business so others can learn from practical examples of care, ownership and action.
Anyone can nominate a team member or even themselves. A good nomination simply explains who was involved, what hazard or risk was identified, what action was taken, and how that action made the workplace safer. Posters will be visible at each site, and you can use the QR code to enter your nomination. Each month, three GIVE A DAMN SAM Champions will be recognised and rewarded.
What we need from everyone is simple: do not walk past risk. If you see something unsafe, speak up. If you can fix it safely, make it safe and escalate it and always remember to STOP and Take 5. Most importantly, back each other to do the safe thing – every site, every turn, every shift.
Let’s make GIVE A DAMN SAM more than a campaign – Let’s make it the way we work, because every action we take to prevent harm helps someone get home safe to what matters most.
